Apply using the Applicant Portal

The Apply Now button on the right will take you to the Applicant Portal. There, you can create and submit your application and supporting documents, and you can also request your references.

An application is only complete when:

  1. you have submitted your application and supporting documents via the Applicant Portal
  2. you have paid the application fee if applicable. For further information on application fees, and which courses require an application fee, see here.
  3. your referees have provided their references.

If you miss the deadlines specified in this section, you will not be able to submit your application.

Applicants for early funding competitions, such as the Gates °Ç¸ç³Ô¹Ï US round (for US citizens resident in the US), should apply by the relevant deadline for that funding source and will be assessed separately.

Please note that applications are only accepted for Michaelmas Term entry.

 

Selection Process

All other applications will be assessed on a rolling basis from January.  

You should normally expect to hear whether you have been successful within 6 weeks of the course application deadline, and by the end of June at the latest.

Things You'll Need

In order to apply for this course you'll need to think about getting a few things ready before you apply.

  • Two academic references  
  • Transcript  
  • CV/resume
  • Evidence of competence in English

  • Statement of Interest (1500 characters) (mandatory)
    A statement about your motivation for applying for this course and an outline of your relevant experience and interests. You should also indicate your preferred minor topic areas if any. This selection is non-binding, and should you be offered a place on the course you would be free to choose any other topics for assessment. Providing this information will ensure that your application can be forwarded to an appropriate academic for consideration.
  • Sample of Work (1) (document upload) (optional)
    eg a report written for your previous course, a published academic article, or another piece of writing that you feel shows your suitability for the course. Examples of numerical pipelines or coding projects you wish to include should be provided via links to public repositories like GitHub rather than by posting source code.
  • Research Experience (2500 characters) (optional)
    A description of any research projects that you are currently, or have previously, undertaken.
  • Careers Goals (1500 characters) (mandatory)
    A description of future research you would like to undertake.
  • School of Physical Sciences - Widening Participation Questionnaire

Gates °Ç¸ç³Ô¹Ï Scholarships

If you wish to be considered for a Gates °Ç¸ç³Ô¹Ï Scholarship you will also need to provide the following:

  • Gates °Ç¸ç³Ô¹Ï Reference  
  • Research Proposal (PhD applicants only)
