Teaching
Students are integrated into the department's research culture by working one-on-one with a research supervisor. They are expected to attend the department's programme of research seminars and other postgraduate courses, including postgraduateskills training courses on offer via the department and from the School of Arts and Humanities Researcher Development Office. Informal opportunities to develop research skills also exist through mentoring and other opportunities by fellow students and members of staff.
Students are expected to be in °Ç¸ç³Ô¹Ï for the duration of the course. There may be the opportunity to go on Fieldwork Trips; however, this will require prior agreement with their supervisor.
One to one supervision | Students will be allocated a Supervisor who will support their academic progress for the duration of the programme. They will be expected to meet for one hour up to every two weeks during the term for the duration of the programme. The °Ç¸ç³Ô¹Ï publishes an annual which sets out the University’s expectations regarding supervision. |

Lectures | Students are encouraged to attend the various lectures and seminars the department offers that are relevant to their research subject. |

Feedback
Students will receive feedback via supervisions and the Supervisor's termly reports.
Assessment
Thesis / Dissertation
The examination consists of a thesis of not less than 20,000 words and not more than 30,000 words in length, exclusive of tables, footnotes, bibliography, and appendices, on a subject approved by the Degree Committee for the Faculty of Architecture and History of Art. The examination shall include an oral examination of the thesis and the general field of knowledge within which it falls.
The thesis is examined by two examiners and includes an oral examination, usually held at the Faculty.
Other
Students will be asked to:
- at the end of the first term (Michaelmas), the submission of a developed thesis proposal and the first 5,000 words (precise content to be agreed upon with the Supervisor)
- at the end of the second term (Lent), a presentation on current findings
- at the end of the third term (Easter), the submission of the thesis
For part-time students:
- at the end of the third term (Easter), the submission of a developed thesis proposal and the first 5,000 words (precise content to be agreed upon with the Supervisor)
- at the end of the first term (Michaelmas), a presentation on current findings
- at the end of the second term (Lent), the submission of the thesis
