Part-time fees

As a part-time research student you'll be charged a reduced University Composition Fee for each year of your course.

In order to be admitted to your course, you must provide evidence of your ability to cover the University Composition Fee for the entire duration of the course.

You are not required to show evidence of maintenance costs but you should make provision for travel and accommodation expenses at various times during your course.

Part-time PhD, MSc, MLitt, CPGS

For the part-time PhD, MSc, MLitt and CPGS the fee is 60% per annum of the full-time University Composition Fee.

Part-time MPhil

For the part-time MPhil, taken over two years, the fee is 50% per annum of the full-time University Composition Fee.

MSts and part-time Postgraduate Certificates and Diplomas

For MSt degrees and part-time postgraduate certificates and diplomas the fees vary depending on the course; please refer to the ICE MSt Course Directory and the ICE Part-time Postgraduate Award Course Directory for further information.

Our part-time programmes offer a more flexible way to study for a degree at �Ǹ�Թ�, meaning you can fit your studies around your career and other commitments.

Part-time study can be ideal for those who are:

looking to gain a postgraduate qualification without leaving employment
wish to develop their careers while they continue earning
home-based and wish to develop their skills

Part-time research degrees are particularly well-suited to those looking to undertake research in an area related to their current professional environment.

Part-time courses at �Ǹ�Թ�

You can filter the course search in the Course Directory to view part-time courses.

Different types of part-time study are available from different parts of the University, including the Institute of Continuing Education (ICE) and the �Ǹ�Թ� Judge Business School.

Unlike many other universities, part-time degrees at �Ǹ�Թ� are not distance learning, where study is undertaken remotely (although ICE and CISL offer some non-degree online courses).

For taught programmes, you will be expected to attend �Ǹ�Թ� for lectures, to complete assessments and for other activities as required.
For research students, you are required to attend �Ǹ�Թ� for around 45 days a year, for formal supervision and training.

In all cases, you will be expected to actively engage in the intellectual and social experiences of �Ǹ�Թ� life.

The time that part-time students spend in �Ǹ�Թ� makes up just a part of their study commitment. Students are required to study for a set proportion of the full-time commitment.

For PhD students, this proportion can be set at either 60% or 75% of full-time study, in consultation with a department.
For MPhil students, the proportion is set at 50%.
